Radioactive elements are naturally present in the earth’s crust and these naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) can accumulate in waste produced by some industrial activities such as mining and oil and gas production.
To ensure compliance with the Radioactive Substances Act (1993), effluents and waste materials containing NORM must be analysed before disposal.
At NCIMB, we are equipped to handle NORM and our environmental radiochemistry service can undertake both alpha and gamma spectroscopy to report on activity for polonium-210, lead-210, actinium-228 and radium and daughters in a variety of wastes including scales, pig wax, sand, sludges, cuttings and produced water.
NCIMB is ISO 9001 certified, licensed by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and FPAL registered.
